Making A Plan
How do we come up with a plan? Each planning process has 3 components:
1. Data: See Animal Assessment for the types and sources of data to collect When considering the animal, ask yourself:
  • Who are you?
  • What condition are you in?
  • During daily rounds and daily interaction, how are you doing in our care?
2.Assessment: Use the obtained information to determine possible strategies
  • What do you need right now?
  • What strategies are we able to offer you?
  • What can we implement TODAY?
  • How do we make a favourable outcome happen for you?
The strategies that are available to us can be found in:

Behavioural Enrichment for Cat and Kittens

Behavioural Enrichment for Dogs and Puppies

Behavioural Enrichment for Small Animals and Birds.

3.Plan: Test the chosen strategies, observe outcome, and determine if goals of stress reduction and environmental enrichment were met
  • Is this working for this animal?
  • Is this meeting our goals?
  • If the answer is no, either the strategies were not appropriate, or the animal’s needs or behaviour have changed;go back to Assessment to choose new strategies.
